“Biennale Snapshots” by Vivian Fung Visual meets aural
Biennale Snapshots with the Vancouver Symphony celebrates the Vancouver Biennale’s 2014–16 installations. It is the first musical composition to be commissioned by the Biennale. The 25-minute work is set in five movements, the first and second of which are played without pause. As the composer of the work, I chose to pay homage to the Biennale by selecting five different artworks from the exhibition and having each movement act as my musical “snapshot” of the art piece, allowing the visual to inspire the aural.

Vancouver Biennale brings Oliver Stone’s The Untold History of the United States to the masses
A new 12-part series by acclaimed director Oliver Stone is coming to Vancouver.
Called The Untold Story of the United States, the documentary project was picked up by the Vancouver Biennale, a non-profit organization that describes itself as a celebration of art in public space.

Miguel Horn sculpts an expanding career
Five years ago, Miguel Horn returned to Philadelphia after living and working in Mexico as the assistant to acclaimed sculptor Javier Marin.
An ambitious artist with Colombian and Venezuelan roots whose vision spans multiple communities and continents, Horn finds himself today, at 31, at a crossroads and immersed in determining the direction of his career. While public-art commissions punctuate his practice as a sculptor, he balances his portfolio with individual sculptures that express his inner psyche.

Flare Localist: The Art Scene is Booming
You don't need to muse on white walls to stay on the cutting edge. Walk around the seawall for an up-close-and-personal interaction with Yue Minjun's A-Maze-ing Laughter (2009) sculpture (a pricey gift to the city from Lululemon founder Chip Wilson). Or keep heading up False Creek and you'll run smack into the latest Vancouver Biennale offering: Marcus Bowcott's Trans Am Totem (2015, pictured), a 10-metre-high mash-up of Northwest culture featuring an old-growth cedar trunk topped with five scrap cars.

Central Lonsdale Art
Central Lonsdale is home to some rather large feet.
The outside art installation is called Walking Figures and features a set of nine cast iron sculptures dispersed along Lonsdale Avenue between 13th and 23rd streets.
According to a previous North Shore News story, the headless, armless human forms are the handiwork of Polish artist Magdalena Abakanowicz, who has been described as one of the top 40 most significant artists in the contemporary art world.

Leaving their mark on Squamish
